Forest Technology Systems (FTS) a member of Advanced Environmental Monitoring (AEM), has a terrific opportunity for a results-driven Hardware Team Manager to join their growing Victoria-based company. The Hardware Team Manager will continue to build and manage a top-notch hardware and firmware development team, and will be responsible for implementing key design processes that enable the hardware team to consistently deliver robust, high-quality products as part of the overall Product Development Lifecycle.

Responsibilities of the Hardware Team Manager include:

  • Plan and manage all aspects of hardware engineering activities, including firmware and mechanical development of end-to-end systems.  From MCU based sensors, and telemetry devices to high performance CPU based data acquisition systems.  Ensuring all projects, initiatives, and processes are aligned with company business goals and ISO9001:2015 quality controls.
  • Providing guidance for implementation and improvement of design processes, production documentation and design output control.
  • Identifying and hiring engineering professionals, then ensuring their success with FTS.
  • Driving projects to completion, on time and on budget.
  • Providing technical leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment.

Our ideal Hardware Team Manager brings:

  • B.Sc. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ Years of experience leading hardware engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for developing conceptual mechanical designs for electronic products including enclosures, mounts, card racks or board stacks.
  • Extensive experience in the design and implementation of embedded systems including hardware, firmware, and interfaces.
  • Experience with remote telemetry, cellular and satellite systems including GPS, Iridium, GOES, BGAN and upcoming Starlink
  • Experience designing modern low power consumption surface mount PCAs as well as tooling to measure and monitor power consumption
  • Experience with C/C++ embedded firmware development in a real time systems.
  • Experience with designing and implementing systems on an RTOS.
  • Experience using modern embedded IDE such as IAR or equivalent.
  • Experience with Altium Designer, version control systems for software and CAD design systems.
  • Experience with international regulatory certification requirements and testing including EMC/EMI compliance, electrical safety, and environmental testing.
  • Experience managing mechanical design and engineering activities.
  • Experience managing external partners to help accelerate product development.
