Ready to make a difference in your Province by supporting wildland fire fighting with world class software?  Selkirk is a boutique (SME) software firm that makes near real time software applications used by some of the busiest fire agencies in Canada to prepare for and respond to wildland fire.

Working in a cross-discipline development team, your individual strength, sense of responsibility, and desire to work collaboratively in an agile, informal setting to continue to support (enable) wildland fire fighting efforts across Western Canada.  You bring your passion to what you do and how you do it.

Two full time positions are available: one intermediate developer and one junior developer.  Additional opportunities are available for strong Co-ops or new grads, or if you have compelling experience in the nice to haves

Remote working, whether locally or a distance, is fully supported and depending on Covid-19 it may be necessary for some or all employment. Skills, environment, and attitude must match. For those working at a distance, overlap with the Pacific Time zone is necessary.

About You:  

The Basics

3+ years (Intermediate) of relevant agile team experience with some good project wins under your belt, or 1+ years (Junior) experience getting the basics in a number of the following:

  • Java
  • Spring boot
  • Swing UI
  • RESTful API’s
  • Web
  • React
  • DevOps
  • Atlassian + Docker Hub + Kubernetes
  • Microservices and cloud hosted development
  • QF Test
  • Keycloak

Nice to haves:

  • Data Science
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Anomaly Detection in time series data
  • AI
  • Rules engine + ML

What to Expect:

In one month: you will be becoming comfortable with the company devops and build processes, and starting to contribute to projects.  You will be getting to know your peers and how the team solves problems.

Within three months: you will be deeper into architectures and projects and taking on lead on appropriate stories.  You will start to recognize the domain specific jargon and how it all fits together. You will be well integrated into the team and start to be recognized for your strengths and unique characteristics.

Within six months: you will have fuller appreciated for the projects, architectures and codebase, and a understanding of the wildland fire domain.  Your software contributions will be making a difference in fire operations across Canada.
