What does a day look like in my role?
We get it: You want to know what you’re signing up for before you apply, right? This is what you need to know: As a Lead QA Automation Developer for Shift, you’ll be responsible for:
- Designing, building, and deploying automation test frameworks for the Shift Browser and supporting services.
- Participating with the productions of various QA artifacts, including master test strategies/plans, functional test plans, QA acceptance plans and defect tracking reporting.
- Implementing and participating in performance, and security testing.
- Performing Manual QA tests when required.
- Participating in code reviews for code written by other developers on the team and your own.
- Analyzing data to better inform our decision-making process and alert us to potential problems.
- Coordinating initiatives and projects from idea to release.
- Manage the QA team by providing support and mentorship for all direct reports.
- Reproducing problems reported by our customers.
- Providing technical assistance to our customer success team.
- After 1 week
- You’ve met the Shift team and understand the various team structures
- You have met with your direct reports 1 on 1 and began building a relationship with them
- You have an understanding of the software we build and are starting to familiarize yourself with the development process.
- You will have started or completed a few small tasks, merged some code into the various repos, and completed some code review + QA of other developers work.
- After 1 month
- You will have a good understanding of the development process and the functioning of our software.
- You will be starting to envision and design new QA processes for the team to follow.
- You will be starting to code new features and functionality into the app to support these processes.
- You will be coordinating with the product team and other developers as you debug errors and implement fixes.
- After 6 months
- You will lead on architecting/building and maintaining new QA processes and systems (Integration tests, UI tests, release process, etc).
- You will have all the knowledge necessary to answer any technical questions related to the app.
- You are confident in signing off on new releases, as they have passed all our QA processes and your validation.
What we would like to see in you.
Every Shift employee has three things in common: We’re curious, hungry, and good-humoured. We try our best to balance hard work with good, old-fashioned fun. As a Lead QA Automation Developer with Shift, there are extra specialties we’re on the lookout for:
- 3 or more years of experience in software development and automated testing tools (such as Cypress, Puppeteer, Playright, etc.).
- Experience in leading and mentoring a team ideally QA Specialists
- Experience working on automation frameworks for Desktop and Web applications.
- Experience with web application testing (browser compatibility, responsive testing, etc.).
- You are familiar with the types of testing including regression, performance, stress, unit, integration, and security testing.
- You have experience with testing REST API and are proficient in use of API testing tools.
- Experience with version control systems (Git/Github) and CI/CD tools.
- Experience with DevOps principles and practices.
- You have hands-on experience with identifying defects, minimizing steps to replicate and log issues into a defect tracking tool (JIRA or similar ticketing systems)
