BC Transit BC
We love that our head office is in Victoria and we bet you do too! We are happy you have decided to explore a career with BC Transit, this is a great city to work and live in. We are passionate about helping reduce congestion in the city and providing a public service to everyone in BC (except for Metro Vancouver). We have innovative new bus lanes being installed from Colwood to Downtown in both directions, real time GPS being installed in the full fleet across the province and we are beginning to explore mobile payment options among other things. It is an exciting time to be in the transit industry and we are looking for fun, creative, passionate people to join our amazing team. Not only would you work with an incredible team, you would also receive great benefits and a pension plan to boot. Keep reading to find out if this role makes you feel excited to come to work each day!
As the successful candidate, you will apply your creativity and innovation to help us push the envelope! You will focus on architecting, building, and integrating systems to create lasting business solutions. This means you will be working closely with business stakeholders and members of IT to ensure the successful delivery of new applications and maintaining critical services used for the successful operations of BC Transit. We have a mix of commercial, off-the-shelf software (with a mix of legacy and modern applications) and in-house applications and solutions.

Has been around application development: Minor to moderate experience developing in Python, .NET, or other languages to solve business problems would be a great asset
Strong listening and communication skills: Understanding customer needs and requirements, communicating with vendors on the development of customizations, understanding testing requirements, and expressing ongoing support needs to stakeholders ensures successful, lasting solutions
Has leveraged or built integrations: As more applications need to talk to each other in a safe and secure manner, an understanding of an overall integration architecture is vital

Regardless of which provider, an understanding of data analysis functions that support business intelligence and reporting is a key part of this role
Is able to see the big picture: While operations always will be there, the ability to reflect on the overall architecture (the “big picture”) and designing and integrating systems accordingly is essential
