The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range: $68,097 - $76,641 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

Performance range: starting salary to max of $89,370 is available through annual performance increases.

UVic's compensation is competitive with:

  • Annual salary increases – 3% progression increases up to the salary job rate, and 2% performance increases from the job rate to the ceiling, of the salary range

Job Summary

Reporting to the Analytics and Business Intelligence Manager, the Senior Data Analyst plays a central role in establishing a data driven culture across Alumni and Development. The Senior Data Analyst works closely with the Data Analyst and Business Analyst positions to develop data analytics and business intelligence solutions for Alumni and Development and campus partners. The Senior Data Analyst also liaises with central University Systems staff for SQL Server and Tableau Server support.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage very large sets of highly confidential Alumni and Development data ensuring it is clean, consistent, accessible, interoperable, secured, defined and understood.
  • Lead the design and development of data management tools and ETL processes for Alumni and Development business applications, SQL databases, Tableau business intelligence platform and cloud services.
  • Design, develop, and optimize schema models and T-SQL database objects, including tables, views, indices, functions, and procedures for use in complex reports and the Tableau business intelligence platform.
  • Design and develop Tableau data visualizations (charts, graphs, dashboards) that guide the planning and operations of fundraising and alumni engagement activities at UVic.

Job Requirements

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a Software Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant discipline plus at least 5 years of experience:

•    SQL development (tables, views, indices, functions, and procedures)

•    Data modelling, including conceptual modeling of business systems and schema modeling

•    Designing and developing data management tools and ETL processes for business intelligence

•    Designing and developing business intelligence dashboards

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge requirements include:

•    Proven SQL development and data modelling skills

•    Demonstrated knowledge of large, relational databases and data structures

•    Strong understanding of ETL concepts

•    Statistical and data analysis and exploration skills

Assets or Preferences:

•    Experience working in a post-secondary Alumni and Development environment

•    Experience with Tableau Server, Table Prep Conductor, Tableau Data Catalog

•    Experience with Microsoft Azure and SQL Server

•    Microsoft SQL Database Developer/Administrator Certification

•    Tableau Certified Data Analyst
