SENIOR GIS ANALYST

Would you like to be part of leading a Canadian Geographic Information Systems solutions provider? Caslys Consulting Ltd., located on the Saanich Peninsula just outside of Victoria, B.C., provides services related to all aspects of GIS, remote sensing, database and web mapping application development. Our projects span study areas throughout North and South America, with a focus on northern and western Canada. Our portfolio includes projects with ecological, resource and/or land management solutions.  We are currently looking for a permanent, full-time Senior GIS analyst with 10+ years experience with leadership and working with the ESRI suite of GIS products.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical project lead including requirements gathering, solution design, business analysis and QA/QC

  • Creation of project plans, estimates, procedures and process development 
  • Manage projects and lead development by engaging with project teams (internal and client-side)

Use GIS to enter, extract and manipulate spatial data layers

  • Design and implementation of solutions with spatial data models, analysis
  • Technical writing to support project reporting and business development, including proposal writing

Qualifications:

10+ years experience

Knowledge of the key concepts, principals, and techniques in GIS and remote sensing

  • Technical background in Cartography, GIS analysis and/or Remote Sensing

Knowledge of geodatabases, database design and management, and data life cycle management

Efficient time management skills, able to work under pressure and remain organized

  • Be results-oriented; have strong problem solving and analytical skills; attention to detail; experience working on multiple projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Experience:

Recent experience in leading or managing the compilation, integration and documentation of multiscale geospatial data from various sources in the context of wildlife or habitat management

  • Experience supervising employees and leading projects
  • The ability to plan, organize and set priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
    • Experience writing proposals and summary reports
  • Recent experience and expertise with core ESRI GIS software, including ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro), scripting (e.g. Python, R), image analysis (e.g. aerial photos, LiDAR, satellite imagery) and extensions such as Spatial Analyst
  • Recent and significant experience in analyzing, interpreting and communicating data or information to advise decision-makers and to support:
    • the conservation or management of ecosystems, habitats or species
    • environmental risk or impact assessments
    • landscape modelling and disturbance mapping
  • Experience in developing and implementing quality assurance/control procedures for the maintenance of spatial and non-spatial source data, including databases and geodatabases

Experience with programming and scripting languages (e.g. Python, R) to create customized data views or user tools
