Are you an enthusiastic, self-starting individual used to working with Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment? We are adding a member to our Operations team. As the SMT Technologist/Operator, you will primarily be responsible for executing production/prototype operations and maintenance tasks.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Program, operate and maintain our Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment.
  • Setup and changeover of SMT equipment, Reflow Oven and hand placement of SMT components (where applicable), utilizing written work instructions and assembly BOMs.
  • Daily operation of SMT equipment including Stencil printer, Solder paste inspection, Pick and place, Reflow and PCBA wash/clean
  • Prototype PCBA through the SMT equipment including stencil printer, solder paste inspection, pick and place, reflow and PCBA wash and clean
  • Maintain production output with minimal downtime and minimal supervision
  • Maintain general machine cleanliness and upkeep
  • Achieve and adhere to a high level of product quality
  • Rework circuit boards when needed
  • Conformal coating operations of SMT run PCBA 


How you will spend your time:

  • Prepare and set up feeder tables for SMT line
  • Perform kitting of electronic parts and inventory control of parts
  • Perform Optical inspection to examine product for defects, utilizing knowledge of manufacturing and quality standards, to ensure conformance to product specifications
  • Solve technical issues and determine best course of action
  • Gain a working knowledge across the scope of all Quester Tangent’s Transit products
  • Prepare adequate records for quality
  • Endeavour to improve the quality of Quester Tangent products and services
  • Miscellaneous duties in support of the manufacturing team


What you will need to succeed:

  • Diploma of Technology from a recognized institution in the field of Electronics, Electrical Technology, or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • Two years’ experience with machine programming and operating SMT equipment
  • Experience working in an electronics manufacturing environment
  • IPC-A-610 certification or training  
  • SMT Operator Training  
  • The ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for cross-functional situations – production and prototyping
  • Good manual dexterity; fine motor skills for working with small components (hand-eye coordination)
  • Strong verbal & written communications skills, proficient with the English language
  • Able to work independently for long periods of time
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to understand and communicate complex technical issues
  • Knowledge of electronic components and electronic assembly
  • Knowledge of set-ups, equipment programming and adjustments 
  • Soldering experience
