Is intellectual property the engine for Vancouver Island’s next economy, or are we cashing out too soon?

Vancouver Island companies are very good at inventing the future, but they sometimes struggle to stay on the ride. Too often, the only way for a company to move forward is to sell off its most valuable asset: its intellectual property (IP).
IP refers to “creations of the mind” and can include inventions, designs, copyrights, names, logos and patents, which have legal protection as intangible assets.
When it comes to IP in general, if the Island (and Canada) wants to capture more of the value it creates, it’s time to get better at playing the IP game.
