VIATEC Launches Victoria Tech Week: A New Decentralized Model Showcasing Island Innovation Across Multiple Venues
November 17-21 event series transforms Victoria into a city-wide tech showcase, culminating in Prompt Victoria AI Conference and Discover Tectoria
VICTORIA, BC (October 1, 2025) – VIATEC, in partnership with the Victoria tech community, today announced the launch of Victoria Tech Week, taking place November 17–21, 2025. Inspired by successful models from Boulder Startup Week, Seattle Tech Week and NY Tech Week, the new event adopts a decentralized format that turns Victoria into a city-wide innovation showcase, with dozens of events hosted by local companies in their own venues across the capital region.
Unlike traditional single-venue conferences, Victoria Tech Week empowers local businesses to open their doors and welcome attendees inside, offering an authentic behind-the-scenes look at Victoria's thriving tech ecosystem. From startup workshops in James Bay to AI panels in downtown office towers and networking sessions in Saanich tech hubs, participants will experience the full breadth of Vancouver Island’s innovation landscape.
"Victoria Tech Week turns our entire city into a stage for innovation," said Dan Gunn, VIATEC’s CEO. "Instead of being locked in a single convention hall, people will be moving through neighbourhoods, stepping inside local companies, and experiencing the culture that drives our sector. It is a chance for the community to see what has been hiding in plain sight and for the world to see why Victoria’s tech ecosystem has more momentum now than at any time."
"Most of our local tech companies have customers all over the globe, which means you will not typically see them with a storefront and a sandwich board on the sidewalk," added Tessa Davies, VIATEC’s Director of Communications and Events. "Our hope is that many of these companies will open their doors so the community can see where all the innovation is happening, often right around the corner or upstairs from plain sight."
The week builds to two flagship events: Prompt Victoria >_ AI Conference on November 20 and Discover Tectoria on November 21.
Driving Local Economic Impact
By distributing events across multiple venues, Victoria Tech Week is designed to generate widespread economic benefits for the city’s hospitality and service sectors. Attendees will naturally support local cafés, restaurants, and neighbourhood businesses while moving between events. In Seattle, the decentralized model brought together diverse community stakeholders well beyond the tech sector. Organizers expect to see the same in Victoria.
"This approach turns our entire city into a conference venue," noted Marc Stoiber, Victoria Tech Week co-organizer. "Participants will be moving throughout Victoria, experiencing our neighbourhoods, supporting local businesses, and seeing firsthand why our quality of life attracts world-class talent."
Local tech companies, including Premier Sponsor Redbrick, will host intimate events in their own spaces, offering visitors authentic insights into Victoria's innovation culture. From the Inner Harbour to Esquimalt, downtown to the Saanich Peninsula, the week will showcase the geographic diversity and collaborative spirit that set Victoria’s tech scene apart.
