Victoria based cleantech company creates low-carbon transition plans for large commercial real estate portfolios

VICTORIA, BC, September 2, 2021 - Audette, a cleantech company creating low-carbon transition plans for large commercial real estate portfolios, has raised C$1M in seed funding. The fresh capital will help Audette scale its technology and operations to serve more property portfolios leading the carbon revolution.

“With the impacts of climate change growing more apparent, the need for low-carbon planning has never been greater,” says Christopher Naismith, CEO and founder of Audette. “Retrofitting the built environment represents an enormous opportunity for rapid decarbonization, and Audette is helping asset managers realize these ambitions.”

Audette’s software digitizes the outdated process of assessing conservation potential in buildings. The end-to-end platform captures data to identify and assess opportunities for low-carbon building improvements and helps building owners source financing and incentives that reduce the cost of retrofit projects by up to 90%.

Since launching its core product last year, the Canadian cleantech company has partnered with enterprise clients representing more than $145B in assets across Canada.

Over the next 12 months, Audette plans to work with its early customers to scale operations across British Columbia, Ontario, New York, and California. Audette will also launch the first version of its financing marketplace, giving users streamlined access to capital to fuel their carbon transitions.

“At Audette, we’ve imagined the carbon-free future and we know that one thing has to be true -- every existing building on the planet needs a carbon transition plan,” says Naismith. “While challenging, this is fundamentally a data exercise, and it’s one that can be solved. We’re honoured and excited to be part of the corporate real estate movement that is realizing this new low-carbon economy”

The round was led by Active Impact Investments, with participation from Powerhouse Ventures, Panache Ventures, Turnham Green, and Undivided Ventures. The seed funding has already enabled Audette to add two new roles to its currently eight-person team. Three more jobs are anticipated to be created before the end of 2022.
