B.C. earmarks $1.5M for seven Vancouver Island tech companies

Technology Sector Ocean Sciences and Marine Technology Funding Government

VIATEC Members MarineLabs and VoxCell among the list of impressive recipients.

The B.C. government has earmarked more than $1.5 million to support tech development among seven Vancouver Island companies.

The funding is coming from Innovate BC’s “Integrated Marketplace Platform” fund, which is designed to support small and medium-sized businesses with showcasing their technology innovations and preparing them for the commercial market.

One of the largest slices of funding is going to MarineLabs in Victoria, which received $310,000 to showcase its AI-powered fog-detection and forecasting system.

The full list of recipients can be found here, while all Vancouver Island recipients can be found below. Each company got a maximum of $500,000 in funding.

  • Mostar Labs in Victoria: $435,000
  • PrimeHealth (formerly ElderPrime Solutions) in Courtenay: $350,000
  • MarineLabs in Victoria: $310,000 (VIATEC Member!)
  • Canadian Electric Vehicles in Parksville: $125,000.
  • Reach Technologies in Victoria: $115,000
  • VoxCell BioInnovation in Victoria: $110,000 (VIATEC Member!)
  • iTotem Technology Solutions in Victoria: $90,000
