Horizon Europe, the world's largest research and innovation funding program, will focus on two areas of the work programme: Digital, Industry and Space; and Climate, Energy and Mobility
Canadian organizations are invited to showcase their expertise and pitch project ideas to Horizon Europe, the world's largest research and innovation funding program. The sessions will focus on two areas of Horizon Europe’s work programme: Digital, Industry and Space and Climate, Energy and Mobility (see below for sample projects).
- The Connexion Canada: Online Matchmaking/Brokerage Event, will take place on May 21, 2025, at 6:30-7:40 am (PT). Hosted by Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service in Spain, it offers a webinar and virtual matchmaking platform. Please visit this link for more details and to register for the session.
- The Canada–Baltics Horizon Europe Networking Event, will take place on May 29, 2025, at 7:30-9:30 am (PT) on Microsoft Teams. It is hosted by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) in partnership with the Embassies of Canada in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. For more details, please see the full agenda. You can register using the following link. Participants planning to pitch their ideas will receive guidelines by email after May 15, 2025.

Sample Digital, Industry and Space projects include:
- €8 million to develop clean processing technologies that reduce the usage of hazardous substances, create novel processing technologies with lower health and environmental impacts, and methods to monitor for pollutants.
- €5 million for Innovative Advanced Materials for conformable, flexible or stretchable electronics devices, and sustainable electronics with low environmental impact.
- €45 million to develop robust and trustworthy GenerativeAI for robotics and industrial automation, enabling dynamic learning and comprehension of physical surroundings.
Sample Climate, Energy and Mobility projects include:
- €10 million to develop sustainable processing and refining of raw materials to produce battery grade Li-ion battery materials.
- €10 million for new CO2 capture technologies from points sources and from direct from air, at reduced costs and lower environmental impact.
- €6 million for the integration of advanced materials, cell design and manufacturing development for high-performance batteries aimed at mobility.

Horizon Europe is the European Union’s premier research and innovation funding program. It supports the creation, distribution, and advancement of science- and evidence-based solutions to the world's most important challenges.
It fosters international collaboration and global partnerships, offering Canadian organizations access to a network of partners and business experts from Europe and around the world.
With a budget of €95.5 billion (over $140 billion CAN) over 7 years (2021 to 2027), the funding supports scientific and innovative breakthroughs to tackle climate change and boost industrial competitiveness and growth.
