Fort Tectoria’s second floor makes way for investment network

VIATEC Technology Sector VIATEC Member News Employment Partnership COVID-19

Capital Investment Network, CINdicates, Vic Foundry and associated companies like Care2Talk, LetHub and ChatterBlock will fill the entire floor.

VICTORIA, BC (April 1, 2021) - The Capital Investment Network (CIN) and CINdicates have signed a 3.5 year lease agreement for the entire second floor of VIATEC’s Fort Tectoria starting today. The Capital Investment Network and CINdicates will be joined by a variety of companies they work with, breathing new life into the co-working space.

“We started our search for just the right space and location to accommodate our unique collection of companies and organizations months ago,” said Jordan Schley, Director of Capital Investment Network, Founder of Care2Talk, and Co-Founder of Vic Foundry. “Like many other tech companies in our community, we have been very fortunate to have stability and growth which increased our need for space. We can’t wait to move in. Our goal is to bring even more attention to Fort Street and to keep building on what VIATEC has already made amazing.”

The second floor of the four storey building opened up when the previous tenant was forced to shutter their in-person training operations and buy out their lease due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was definitely a hit to our revenues in the short term but we were excited about the potential of finding new tenants that more closely aligned with the tech community and having CIN, CINdicates and their associated companies move in is a perfect fit. Once things open back up and more of us are able to return to the office, we think the added energy and people in Fort Tectoria will see everyone in the building benefit,” said Dan Gunn, VIATEC’s CEO.

VIATEC and the Capital Investment Network have been community partners for years, including the creation of the “Angel of the Year” award category at the VIATEC Awards and helping to invite investors to town for VIATEC’s previous Experience Tectoria and Western Angel Investor events. They have also collaborated to create and host a few event series: “Startup Stories,” where two local startup founders share their stories; and “Battle of the Pitch Decks,” where three companies put on a 7 minute presentation each and compete for prizes, in addition to getting exposed to investors. Battle of the Pitch Decks recently got picked up to branch out to Vancouver, the Okanagan and Whitehorse, creating a multi-city competition over 3 months.

Most recently, the Capital Investment NetworkWomen’s Equity LabVIATEC and Alacrity Canada partnered together to create an annual fund with other BC investors, forming CINdicates.

“A key part of our strategic plan is to partner with more organizations in order to combine our efforts to make an even larger impact,” continued Gunn. “VIATEC and the Capital Investment Network have worked closely on many projects, investor related events and conversations on growing the tech sector, so it was an easy yes to welcome them into The Fort and continue this journey together.”
