Victoria’s tech community comes together

Discover Tectoria, held on June 2, was an incredible showcase of the local tech scene. With over 75 Greater Victoria tech companies, research projects, interactive displays, and community partners, the event highlighted the region's largest industry and brought together a diverse group of locals and visitors.

Attendees had the opportunity to engage with the minds behind these tech innovations, gaining insights into what drives Victoria's tech industry. The event served as a platform for potential careers, valuable connections, and expanding knowledge of the tech landscape.

VIATEC, the brains behind Discover Tectoria, organized the expo with the goal of inspiring potential employees, investors, and policy makers. By creating an immersive experience, they aimed to showcase the vibrancy and potential of the local tech scene while also nurturing the inventors of tomorrow.

The event featured various exciting attractions, including the Main Floor Tradeshow where local companies demonstrated their products and sought out talent. Startup Alley provided a sneak peek into the future of Tectoria, while The Gaming Zone offered a fun-filled space dedicated to the latest developments in the scene. The IDEaS Theatre hosted a series of captivating talks and panel discussions throughout the day, covering topics such as Victoria's Blue Economy, Women in Tech, AI's impact on creativity, and more.

The Women and Allies in Tech Lounge, presented by Locelle and sponsored by Global Convention Services, provided networking opportunities and discussions for women in the industry. Panels on women in leadership, and how to be an active ally to women and minorities, encouraged dialogue and shared experiences to foster a more equitable and diverse tech ecosystem.

Plenty of attendees checked out the Research District, sponsored by UVic Engineering, which showcased local innovation and breakthroughs, while Partner Row brought together organizations serving businesses and the community. Oceantech Avenue delved into advancements in sea-based technology, and First Robotics presented competitive robotics teams.

Discover Tectoria exemplified the thriving tech community in Victoria and the boundless potential for growth and innovation within the industry. With its varied programming and multiple opportunities to connect, it served as a catalyst for local inspiration, and a deeper understanding of the local tech scene.
