Victoria-based Kixeye Studios has acquired the game Iron Throne: The Firstborn from Korean studio Netmarble.
Terms were not disclosed for the deal, which gives Kixeye a new gaming engine it believes could be used to improve the gaming experience with some of the studio’s other titles. The game will be renamed Rise of Firstborn.
“We are incredibly excited to acquire Rise of Firstborn and welcome the Rise of Firstborn players into the Kixeye family,” said studio chief executive Colin How. “With this acquisition we are continuing to realize our vision to be the world leader in real-time strategy games.
“At the core of this game is a state-of-the-art game engine which we could potentially use for things like engine sharing and further scaling within the Stillfront Group of studios.”
Kixeye was purchased by Stillfront, a global conglomerate of gaming studios focused on free-to-play online strategy games, in 2019 in a deal worth $120 million US.
The game Rise of Firstborn, then known as Iron Throne: The Firstborn, was released in 2018.
How said the game is very popular and by September of this year had an average of 100,000 active users and generated $12 million US in revenue over the last year.
