The 2021 Ocean Startup Challenge is offering up to $1.4 million to ocean tech ventures, along with mentorship, training and additional services from Challenge supporters. Applications close June 1, 2021.

The 2021 Ocean Startup Challenge is offering up to $1.4 million to ocean tech ventures, along with mentorship, training and additional services from Challenge supporters. Applications close June 1, 2021.

What's up for grabs?

 

The competition has three Streams: Idea, Growth, and Oceanshot. Applicants enter the Stream that best describes their company stage. Below are the Stream descriptions:

  1. IDEA – multiple early-stage teams will each receive up to $25K
  2. GROWTH – multiple early-stage companies, having made traction and achieved notable milestones, will each receive up to $100K
  3. OCEANSHOT – up to one early-stage company tackling ambitious, uncharted problems that will lead to massive market opportunities will receive up to $200K prize.

The Challenge also has three special awards this year: 

  • IMPACT AWARD – The Impact award, presented by BDO Canada, will support a startup developing a technology or science-based sustainable solution to help combat climate change, increase environmental monitoring capabilities, or restore ocean ecosystems. Up to one $25K award will be dispersed.
  • WOMEN OCEAN ENTREPRENEUR AWARD – The Women Ocean Entrepreneur Award, presented by Cox & Palmer, will support a startup developing a technology or science-based solution to an ocean industry challenge. Up to one $25K award will be dispersed.
  • INDIGENOUS OCEAN ENTREPRENEUR AWARD – The Indigenous Ocean Entrepreneur Award will support an entrepreneur developing a technology or science-based solution for an ocean industry challenge. Up to one $25K award will be dispersed.
