Searching Out All Professional Threat Hunters
Invitation to Participate in a Study on Threat Hunting Tools and Practices
University of Victoria’s Department of Computer Science are inviting professionals with experience in threat hunting to take part in a one-on-one interview session (approximately 60 minutes, conducted online via Zoom). During the session, you’ll have the opportunity to share your experiences and provide feedback on a set of design concepts currently under evaluation. These concepts are presented through a scenario walkthrough using a prototype developed based on findings from their previous studies.
The interviews will be conducted by Alessandra Milani and Margaret-Anne Storey, researchers from the CHISEL Lab (Computer-Human Interaction and Software Engineering Lab) at the University of Victoria’s Department of Computer Science (Canada). They are conducting a research study to better understand the cognitive demands and workflows of threat hunters, and to explore how alternative tools can be designed to better support your work.
By participating, you’ll contribute to research that aims to develop more effective, human-centered cybersecurity tools. You may also find value in reflecting on your own workflows and exploring new design ideas that could support your day-to-day work. At the end of the study, we’ll share a summary of the findings with participants, so you can see how your insights contributed and learn how others in the community approach similar challenges.
Please note:
- Participation is entirely voluntary. You may decline to answer any question or withdraw at any time without consequence.
- During the interview, we will record the audio and, if you share any examples, your screen as well. This is important for the research team to review notes. Rest assured, all identifiable data will be anonymized and stored on secure servers by the research team.
- All responses will be kept confidential and anonymized prior to publication.
- Although this research is conducted in collaboration with OpenText, only the University of Victoria research team will have access to the raw data.
