Ten More Local Tech Companies Selected for VIATEC’s BOOST Initiative

VIATEC Funding Government Entrepreneurship

Application intake for the next BOOST round is open from April 13th to April 30th.

VICTORIA, BC (April 13, 2026) - VIATEC is pleased to announce the fourth series of BOOST recipients. Ten Victoria-based, high-potential technology ventures have been selected to implement high-impact projects totaling $1,742,280, supported by $514,000 in investment. Combined with previous series, BOOST has now backed 33 projects, driving more than $4.5 million in expansion activity with $1.3 million in investment across the region. These projects will help to accelerate proven local tech companies, unlock new opportunities and achieve higher levels of growth, adding further to the economy of British Columbia.

BOOST is a three-year initiative led by VIATEC to help Greater Victoria’s tech companies grow faster and stronger. It focuses on supporting local startups and scale-ups that show high potential by connecting them with expert advisors, targeted resources, and customized growth plans.

Qualifying companies are selected through a comprehensive screening process that assesses their growth potential, leadership team, market opportunity, and readiness to scale. Those selected receive funding to implement self-designed growth strategies – giving them the flexibility to focus on what they need most, whether that's hiring, product development, customer acquisition, or operational improvements.

The Government of Canada, through Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan), is supporting VIATEC with a $2.5-million investment to deliver BOOST through the Business Acceleration Pilot (BizAP), which aims to accelerate job creation and long-term economic impact in the region. Recipients receive up to $45,000 in investment to implement their personalized growth plans to expand into new markets.

"What started as a pilot is now a proven engine for growth. Thirty-three companies in, we're seeing real jobs, real revenue, and real global ambition being built right here in Greater Victoria,” said Dan Gunn, VIATEC’s CEO. “BOOST isn't just accelerating companies; it's accelerating the entire ecosystem. This round reflects just how broad and deep our tech sector has become, from drone software and marine data to cybersecurity and biotech. When companies this innovative get focused support at the right moment, the results speak for themselves. We're proud to be in their corner."

The projects funded in this round range from aggressive sales growth and international expansion, to strengthening cybersecurity and financial readiness. We would like to offer our congratulations to the following recipients:

In addition, existing projects for Atomic Crayon Web Development Ltd. and WikiSleep Ltd. were extended based on their success with their projects so far and demonstrated need.

These ventures will be implementing projects such as:

  • Scaling drone software into adjacent, higher-budget markets
  • Build the structural foundation required to scale revenue, profitability, and workforce capacity sustainably
  • Build defense market readiness by strengthening our Engineering and Research & Innovation (R&I) capacity and implementing ISO 9001 and 27000 frameworks
  • Building and marketing a dual use prototype for testing with the U.S. Department of Defense and Coast Guard
  • International sales and marketing expansion
  • Developing an automated microinjection module for a high throughput imaging system
  • Repositioning project to evolve from a traditional content marketplace into a scalable hybrid human–AI content engine
  • Secure Canadian Program for Cyber Security Certification (CP-CSC) certification to meet increasing cybersecurity requirements for Canadian defence, medical, and public-sector supply chains
  • Achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification to formalize and strengthen the quality management system, required for many aerospace, marine, and defence contracts
