Victoria-Built Hobby Card Index Earns National Hobby-Press Coverage

Technology Sector

A bootstrapped, one-person Victoria tech company featured in Sports Collectors Daily

Hobby Card Index, a trading card technology platform built in Victoria, has been featured in Sports Collectors Daily, one of the largest sports and trading card news sites in the United States. The write-up, published in July 2026, covered the platform's public launch and its card-scanning technology.

Founder Sean Charman built and bootstrapped Hobby Card Index here on Vancouver Island with no outside funding. The platform brings real sold prices on more than 7 million cards into a single place, and its phone-based scanner identifies a card from a photo and returns its current market value. It also offers collection tracking, a grading-return calculator across the major grading companies, and a full suite of tools for card dealers, including inventory, batch scanning at shows, an eBay listing builder with automatic pricing, profit-and-loss tracking, and a CRM. The platform runs in English, Japanese, and Spanish.

The coverage marks national recognition for a one-person Victoria technology company competing with much larger, venture-backed names in a fast-growing collectibles market that now spans sports cards as well as trading card games such as Pokemon, Magic, and Yu-Gi-Oh.
