Masquerade Elegance Meets Tech: Highlights from Victoria's Dazzling VIATEC Awards Night.
December 1st, 2023
VICTORIA, BC – The VIATEC Community Awards 2023 at Carson Hall, Victoria Conference Centre, was an unforgettable night, not just for the awards but for the spectacular masquerade costume ball theme. Guests were dressed to the nines, donning playful masks and adding an air of mystery and excitement to the evening.
The night kicked off with a beloved tradition - a creative challenge sponsored by KPMG that saw each table competing in decorating their own masks. The competition was fierce, but The City of Victoria table clinched the win with their ingenious Star Wars-themed masks, crafted in just 10 minutes!
Our amazing band, the Astrobots featuring Todd Hooge, Dave Dahlberg, Bil Underwood, and Paul Karin-Gronow, truly rocked the night away. They played classic covers with a twist, altering lyrics to match our tech world and the awards being presented.
Kim Persley and Benji Duke from “Quiz This” were our MCs for the night, bringing an eccentric game show vibe that had everyone in stitches. Their quirky skits and engaging antics kept the audience thoroughly entertained.
As the night hit its peak, the attendees dove into the 'Orca Toss Chaos' – a hallmark of wild fun unique to the event. Picture a sea of smiling faces, with inflatable orcas flying through the air. It was akin to a tech carnival, with everyone fully immersed in the action. This quirky tradition has become their way of declaring, 'In the tech world, Victoria knows how to throw a party!
Special thanks to our sponsors for their invaluable support. Your contributions have been essential in making the VIATEC Community Awards 2023 not just possible, but a remarkable celebration of our vibrant tech community.
