Long Time, No See: VIATEC Rooftop Party

Events have proven to be an amazing tool for VIATEC to serve our members and they often achieve multiple goals at once. They provide a dynamic vehicle to recognize our leaders as examples, to learn from each other and experts, to celebrate wins and failures.

This event calendar contains not only VIATEC organized events, but events from the local tech sector and community! Scroll, read and register!

Long Time, No See: VIATEC Rooftop Party

Thursday, August 12, 2021 (5:00 PM - 8:00 PM) (PDT)

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT! If you're a VIATEC Member and you'd like to be added to the waitlist, please proceed with registration.

Join your fellow Tectorians at this IRL celebration to reconnect, learn how to network again and enjoy food and drinks on a rooftop patio! Thanks to our Sponsors: Cindicates and The Roy Group!

No presentations, no agenda, no streaming, just a casual BBQ to celebrate human interaction again.

You’ll get to:

  • See your friends again
  • Meet new friends
  • Share future plans and seek input
  • Eat BBQ (Veggie/Turkey/Beef)
  • Drink the drinks
  • Catch some rays (hopefully)
  • Celebrate everyone’s hard work during the pandemic, and the return to a new normal.

Feeling a bit rusty?

  • Potential greeting options:
    • You could bow, wave, elbow tap, fist bump or awkwardly place your hands on your head.
    • For the fully vaccinated: Handshake or hugs if you’re both willing!
(Please be respectful and mindful of different comfort levels when interacting with one another)

  • Conversation starters no one has thought of yet:
    • So, did you work from home too?
    • Are you back in the office yet?
    • How about this weather, eh?
    • What vaccine combo did you get?
    • How do you think historians will tell the story of the COVID-19 pandemic, our society’s reaction to it and how do you think it’s going to shape our future?

Ticket Sales:

  • VIATEC Member tickets only ($10+gst each), on sale July 28th at 11:45am
  • THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT! If you're a VIATEC Member and you'd like to be added to the waitlist, please proceed with registration.

All ticket proceeds and donations go to the VIATEC Foundation Fund. Food and drink will be by donation at the event (please bring cash).

Location: 838 Fort Street, “The Summit” Rooftop (This event is not at Fort Tectoria).

Thanks to our Sponsors: Cindicates and The Roy Group!

  1. As per provincial guidelines, masks are recommended in indoor public settings for all people 12 and older who are not yet fully vaccinated. Please ensure you wear your mask while inside the Summit building, and to be respectful of everyone's comfort levels.
  2. Hand sanitizer will be provided at the entry and food station.
  3. All guests will be required to fill out a symptoms check form 24 hours prior to the event.
  4. Please note that while there is an elevator at the venue, a small staircase leads to the rooftop and staff are available to help assist anyone with mobility limitations. The elevator is quite small, making physical distancing impossible so it is recommended you only ride it with those in your group.

VIATEC is committed to enhancing equity and diversity in the tech sector in Greater Victoria. Our mandate is to cultivate the most cohesive tech community in the world, boosting a sense of belonging and shaping our region. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all members and employees.

We’d like to acknowledge that the southern tip of Vancouver Island where we currently reside is the traditional territory of the Lekwungen People. We acknowledge with respect these people, also known as the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations communities, whose relationship with this land continues to this day.
