Leveraging Wage Subsidies to Hire Co-op Students - Webinar

Description

Interested in hiring a Camosun or UVic co-op student, but not sure where to start? Come learn about timing, mentorship and funding options to hire a student for Winter/Spring 2022.

Engaging a student is a cost-effective way to tackle ebbs and flows in the workplace— no matter the economic temperature, and particularly now as we look forward to recovering from the pandemic. Students are available from a wide variety of programs from technology and sciences to business and communication and everything in between.

Federal and Provincial student work placement (SWP) funding programs are available. You may be able to subsidize co-op and internship student wages to 75% or even 100% due to economic flexibility measures. If you hire a student to work 35 hours a week at $17.00/hour for 12 weeks, your total cost for wages would be $7,140. Until March 31, 2022 SWPP program funding has increased to 75% of the wages (up to a maximum of $7,500) for every student hired through the program. So this is an ideal time to take advantage of flexibility measures while they are still in place. The remaining cost may be reduced to $0.00 through provincial Innovator Skills Initiative funding by hiring an underrepresented individual. You may be able to hire up to 10 students with these initiatives.
