The Art of Labour Relations

Tuesday, May 4, 2021 (9:30 AM - 12:30 PM) (PDT)

Description

This is an Elective course in the Art of HR Certificate program. Managing in a unionized workplace can be complicated. Between struggling to interpret the collective agreement articles or understanding how it all applies to you, it can be overwhelming. Hearing the words, “I am going to file a grievance” can make a manager nervous, but if that manager understood their rights and how to best apply them, communication with the union would become that much less intimidating. In this course we will take a closer look at why unions exist, and dive into the rights and responsibilities of the employer and the role of the union. Learn some tried and tested best practice strategies, and when to seek legal advice. Participants will leave this session feeling more confident in their ability to navigate managing within a unionized environment, with a greater overall understanding of the world of labour relations. This event occurs over two half-days: Tuesday, May 4th from 9:30 to 12:30 pm & Thursday, May 6th from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm PST. Event Zoom link will be distributed to registrants a couple of days prior to the event start date.
