Be responsible for taking strategic direction and coordinating development teams to carry out execution of that strategy.

At VertiGIS, we build powerful GIS software. Our portfolio of products, solutions, and services enhance the capabilities of leading mapping software, most notably Esri’s ArcGIS. For decades, professionals have relied upon us to overcome complex technical challenges so that they can make a significant impact in the world.

VertiGIS offers challenging and meaningful careers. Our employees help make a difference in the world through our technologies. We believe every individual contributes to a company’s culture through attitude, interests, and skills. Our teams are comprised of passionate, high-performing individuals that come from a diverse set of educational, cultural, and professional backgrounds. Together we strive to do great work, support each other in growth, and have fun!

The Position

Working closely with and reporting to the Product Director, you will be responsible for taking strategic direction and coordinating development teams to carry out execution of that strategy. You will lead the ongoing building and delivery of two of the flagship products in the VertiGIS Studio product line: VertiGIS Studio Web and VertiGIS Studio Mobile. These two products represent the end-user interface for many tens of thousands of end users of VertiGIS Web and native Mobile applications.

Responsibilities

  • Participating and guiding two small development teams in the daily and weekly rhythms of agile software development.
  • Daily triage of reported issues to determine severity and priority, working with the team to determine what needs to be addressed immediately and what can wait.
  • Weekly story refinement introducing new stories to development teams and facilitating the process of fleshing out details and acceptance criteria.
  • Understand your products well enough to be an expert voice in responding to questions from customers, colleagues, and partners.
  • Reviewing product strategy with the Product Director to ensure a clear understanding of the business problems to be solved, and the strategy intended to solve them.
  • Coordinate and execute the bi-monthly release of your software products.
  • Bi-weekly review meetings providing an opportunity for developers to show off their recently completed and in-progress work.
  • Writing user stories to break down strategic goals into product features.
  • Daily stand-ups to review current work and ensure it is unblocked and progressing.

Requirements

  • You understand the rigors of software development, without losing sight of the business problems you are working to satisfy.
  • You care about execution, while recognizing that people on your teams need to grow and be encouraged in their work.
  • You empathize with users of the software and are curious about how they use your software to solve problems, while working to aggregate information for customers as a market over individuals.
  • You enjoy traveling on occasion to meet with colleagues, partners, and customers regarding the products that you work with.
  • You can grasp the detailed technical conversations around a user story or a bug and are able to summarize the essence of those details for others outside of product development.
  • You are detail oriented, with the ability to pick and choose where to focus your energy and rigor on any given day to best advantage.

Would love to see

  • Experience with Cloud Computing frameworks (Azure, etc.)
  • Experience with UX driven development

Note: We use a recruitment tool to reach out to candidates so please check your inbox to ensure our emails are not being filtered as "Social" or "Promotions" (our provider has been notified).

How to Apply

Please apply with a cover letter and a resume.

A cover letter complements your resume. It allows you to elaborate on your background and experience. It provides you with an opportunity to address how you meet the requirements for the role. It demonstrates your interest. These are important topics that aren’t always covered in a resume alone. Your resume is factual, your cover letter is personal.

We’ve had the most success with applicants that include a cover letter.

Only applicants that include a cover letter will be considered. We look forward to receiving your application!
