The Senior UI/UX Designer applies advanced knowledge to design and deliver attractive user-friendly applications and is regarded as a subject matter expert.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Advanced Solutions Application Services department is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining the business systems for clients such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. Many systems are considered mission critical government applications; used by over 1,000 ministry users in multiple locations around the province and the general public accessing government information.
DESCRIPTION
The Senior UI/UX Designer applies advanced knowledge to design and deliver attractive user-friendly applications and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. Provides expertise to functional project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives. Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies. Frequently represents the organization to external customers/clients. Exercises significant independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. Provides mentoring and guidance to less-experienced team members.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/DELIVERABLES
• Manages user experience design deliverables for complex enterprise level projects involving agile product teams, maintaining the perspective of end users to ensure that user-centered design principles are incorporated into the solution.
• Produces user interfaces and interaction models for digital products, including low- and high-fidelity prototypes (sketched, illustrated or coded), user interface components, design patterns (common assets) and complete production-ready user interfaces.
• Engages in peer-to-peer dialogue with clients with respect to user experience as it relates to their industry and situation.
• Gather and evaluate user requirements, in collaboration with product managers and engineers.
• Develops proposed solutions, addressing client business issues and objectives.
• Illustrates design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps.
• Maintains and uses UI design systems for web and mobile apps.
• Interprets and recommends research findings and artifacts to shape product design and development. Artefacts may include usability test results, research results presentations, journey maps and high-level user goals.
• Cross disciplinary collaboration with business analyst, development, and architecture teams.
• Takes an iterative approach to design based on user feedback and peer review.
• Leads the preparation of documents in support of designing solutions.
• Provides a mentorship role and formal training for analysts and developers related to user experience design.
• Assists with the development of design standards and UI/UX guidelines.
• Manages and expands relationships with partners on user experience design and development.
• Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with user experience design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and user experience.
• Actively participates in IT projects to ensure that clients are included appropriately and that they receive sufficient and timely communications.
• Drives innovation and integration of new technologies and design language into projects and activities in the user experience design organization.
• Keeps current with modern design tools, techniques, best practices, and technologies; and
• Provides cost data input into the planning of software development, upgrades, system integration and major enhancements/projects.

• Collaborate with peers, engineers, technicians, client teams, and external design partners.
• Typically interacts with high- level Individual contributors, managers, directors and program core teams.
• Works simultaneously in multiple projects requiring user experience development; and
• Drives design innovation.

• Moderate to High. Works across a majority of the businesses and functions to ensure that the enterprise solutions developed meet the business needs in a cost-effective and expedient way.
-Provides cost data input into the planning of application development.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Business, Design, Human Factors Engineering, Social Sciences, Communications, or equivalent combinations;
• Solid understanding of design principles and best practices in UI/UX; and
• 10 years of UI/UX design experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Skilled in multiple sub-domains including: Information Architecture, Usability and User-Centered Engineering, Interaction Design, Content Strategy, Information Visualization, Business Analysis, or Design Thinking;
• Broad experience with application of design theories, principles, and concepts to a portfolio of multiple information technology and consumer products and services designs;
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills;
• Able to work in high-performing Agile development teams;
• Broad understanding and experience in designing and implementing research and data collection plans for user experience testing and acceptance;
• Reviewing and evaluating designs for alignment with overall product architecture; recommending and implementing changes to designs and technology to improve product quality and overall user experience;
• Ability to effectively communicate user experience data, design proposals and product specifications and negotiate options at senior management levels;
• Provides a superior standard of research, design, and documentation tasks and deliverables such as: Persona Development, Customer Journey Mapping, Usability Testing, Heuristic Reviews, Competitive Analysis, Research Surveys, Content Strategy Maps, Wireframes, Clickable Prototypes, Requirements Documentation, and Functional Specifications; and
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.

Application Requirements
Must Have
• Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Business, Design, Human Factors Engineering, Social Sciences, Communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience.;
• Demonstrable knowledge, experience in and passion for user-centered design practices gained working in a user experience design capacity for over 5 years.
• Solid understanding of design principles and best practices in UI/UX; and
• Proven experience of working in an agile, digital product- focused development environment with User Experience teams, designers, and developers to iteratively create and improve digital products and services.
• Experience mentoring and supporting less experienced UX practitioners.
