We’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join as one of our earliest hires. You'll work closely with the founders to build and scale the core infrastructure of the platform. This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, making architectural decisions, and delivering backend systems that are secure, performant, and easy to maintain.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs

Collaborate on system architecture, data modeling, and infrastructure decisions

Integrate with third-party systems (e.g., DTC sales platforms, government tax/reporting services)

Write clean, well-documented, and testable code

Ensure system reliability, scalability, and security

Contribute to internal best practices and code reviews

Qualifications

5+ years of professional backend development experience

Strong proficiency in modern backend technologies (e.g., Node.js, Python, Go, or similar)

Experience building and scaling RESTful APIs

Solid understanding of databases (SQL and/or NoSQL), data modeling, and performance optimization

Experience working with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure)

Comfort with CI/CD, containerization (e.g., Docker), and automated testing

Familiarity with authentication/authorization, data security, and compliance is a plus

Must be based in Canada and legally authorized to work full-time
