Are we right for you...

We’re passionate about people and creating sustainable, safe and affordable solutions to BC. We are an organization that has a People First approach and considers people first in every business decision that we make. We are part of the solution and what we do matters; from fighting climate change with battery electric buses, to affordability through cost effective transportation, to connecting remote communities, we bring the heart, soul and innovation to public transportation.

It’s an exciting time to be in the transit industry and we’re looking for creative and passionate people to join our team. Not only would you be joining an engaged organization, but you’d also get to enjoy flexible work arrangements, extended benefits and a pension plan as just a few of the benefits BC Transit employees are eligible for. Keep reading to find out if this role is meant for you!

What you'll be doing...

In this role you will be asked to:

Lead the research and engagement discovery work with diverse levels and areas of the business to develop technology opportunities and create the necessary groundwork that will lead to the successful completion of technology projects.

Analyze market research and business process maps to identify areas for improvement within the business.

Create process maps, journey maps and user stories.

Contribute to the evolution of the Technology Portfolio Management (TPgM) practice (automation, process review, etc.).

Participate in the development of the technology initiative scope, cost estimation, NRFP Planning (requirement gathering, benefit realizations) and change management for funded technology initiatives.

Lead workshops, ask critical questions about established processes, and create high-quality documents such as Discovery Reports and Business Cases.

Utilize a wide range of tools, including the M365 suite, PM tools, and Portfolio tools, to enhance business processes.

In this role you will not be asked to:

Develop technology solutions; our goal is to focus on the problem statements and the needs.

Delivering projects; we have a great team that is responsible for delivering projects, we will collaborate with them.

What you might love about this role:

If you have a curious mindset and love diversity in your work, this role gives you a window into all of BC Transit’s ins and outs which equates to a wide variety of technology initiatives from on-board equipment to advanced financial planning analysis solutions.

This role welcomes creativity, although we are developing standards in our approach not all business clients or technology initiatives are the same, your creativity will be required in finding new ways to engage business clients and gather and present technology information to business clients.

What might not resonate:

We have stage gates, procurement protocols and capitalization rules that we must respect, while those may seem like speedbumps or bureaucracy, those are crucial in ensuring we serve the resident of British Columbia the best we can.

As this role defines technology initiatives and projects and as this is a new process, there will be a lot of unknowns. To enjoy this role, you must be comfortable with knowing 20, 40% of the big picture while still moving forward.

This is a busy team, we have a large backlog. We will work together to prioritize our work but the backlog will never be empty.
