About the Opportunity

Due to our continued growth, SSI CA is currently seeking to fill a Systems Administrator position in our IT department in Victoria, BC. This position will require the candidate to work in our office full-time in Victoria, BC. This position is a fantastic opportunity for someone wanting to work with a high-performing Agile IT team. The successful candidate will be part of a team of IT experts who continually push the boundaries of the technologies and methodologies of effective information technology.

Responsibilities: 

  • Implement and maintain firewalls, VPNs, and other network security measures
  • Configure and maintain network devices, such as firewalls routers, and switches
  • Manage network security policies, VLANs, VPNs and troubleshoot network performance issues
  • Manage Azure and Office 365 environments, including provisioning and licensing
  • Implement Azure AD, conditional access, and MFA policies
  • Design, deploy and maintain VMWARE vSphere environments, including vCenter, ESXi hosts and VMs
  • Maintain and Optimise SAN resources (EMC)
  • Optimize VMWARE resource allocation to ensure performance and scalability
  • Administer and troubleshoot exchange online and Microsoft 365 email services
  • Oversee MS Teams for Chat, Meetings, Voice, and Security
  • Monitor and optimize email flow, retention policies and compliance settings
  • Install, configure, and test all Operating systems and related equipment and software
  • Provide support for Internal Employee requests, analyze problems, and escalate issues when necessary
  • Manage AD, GPO, and DNS/DHCP and related Core Stack services
  • Perform server patching, updates, and security hardening
  • Ensuring the integrity of data storage and backup systems
  • Ensure business continuity through regular system testing and failover procedures.
  • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies using tools such as Kaseya, IDPA, or similar solutions
  • Monitor system performance, security, and availability using tools like SolarWinds or similar solutions
  • Automate repetitive tasks using scripting tools such as PowerShell
  • Respond to and resolve incidents, outages and escalated technical issues

Required Skills:

  • Experience as the subject matter expert implementing various IT enterprise class projects utilizing project management principles, techniques, and methods
  • Expert knowledge of network management tools and techniques with training and experience in Ethernet switching, routing, TCP/IP, wireless standards, firewalls, IDS, and network load balancers
  • Expert knowledge of security assessment and practices in a variety of platforms, firewalls, intrusion testing, attack mechanisms/associated tools and virtual private networks
  • Knowledge and system/network administrator level experience of server and desktop virtualization technologies, cloud technologies (Azure), storage EMC, VMWare, Microsoft Windows Servers, desktop OS platforms
  • Knowledge and system/network administrator level experience with integrating on premise systems/infrastructure with cloud systems (Azure)/infrastructure and deploying cloud infrastructure (Azure)
  • Knowledge and system/network administrator level experience designing, planning and deploying high availability/fault tolerant infrastructure and systems for business continuity and disaster recovery planning
  • Experience in providing advanced troubleshooting, creating builds, and configuring servers; handling the day-to-day management of the server operating system, directory services, essential business platforms and identity management systems

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Minimum 6 years of professional related experience
  • Completion of recognized industry certification(s) with emphasis in the following areas:
    • Network administration and security systems design and administration (e.g. CISCO certification (CCNA) or equivalent networking certification)
    • Server/storage technologies (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, VMWARE Certified Professional (VCP), Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate)

Please note: This position may the option to work hybrid after completion of the probationary period. The successful candidate must either be a Canadian Citizen or hold a valid Canadian Permanent Residency and be willing to work in the SSI office in Victoria, BC full-time.
