The City of Victoria is hiring a Technical Support Analyst to support staff across the organization by keeping critical computer systems, software, and networks running smoothly. In this hands-on role, you’ll provide front-line technical support to City employees, helping troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and telephone issues that enable our teams to deliver services to the community.

Working as part of the Service Desk team, you’ll deliver both in-person and remote support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and enterprise software. Your work will include installing and configuring hardware and software, supporting wired and wireless networks, administering enterprise management tools, and maintaining consistent standards across the City’s IT environment. You’ll also analyze user needs, recommend technology solutions, assist with web page setup, and develop and deliver training to help staff use systems effectively.

FLEX 
The successful candidate for this vacancy would participate in a modified work week, earning a flex day off each bi-weekly period by working additional time each day. Modified work weeks established in accordance with the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement and are subject to change.

POSITION FUNCTION
Install, maintain and upgrade personal computer software and hardware and provide technical support and training for users.

KEY DUTIES
Provide support to staff on the application of various software programs; answer enquiries and solve software and hardware related problems; evaluate staff needs and make recommendations on hardware purchases, equipment allocations and software requirements. Research and report on technologies.

Analyze and make recommendations on personal computer training requirements. Develop and present classroom training programs on the use and application of software; Collect statistical data and prepare reports and documentation; maintain accurate records

Purchase, install, maintain and configure hardware and software; support hardware on a network; support telephone hardware and software; install, maintain and administer network systems including installation, setup, maintenance, training and support; administer enterprise management software; set up and maintain wireless network access

Ensure uniformity of standards for hardware and software programs; communicate technical information to client group, co-workers and contractors; act as team lead or provide assistance to projects as required; provide set up, advice and assistance with web pages for end users.

Perform related duties where qualified.

INDEPENDENCE    

  • Work is generated by requests for service or assigned by supervisor.
  • Work is reviewed upon completion.
  • Issues such as misuse of equipment or software and hardware purchases are referred to supervisor.
     

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort:

  • Sit with arms unsupported while keyboarding. (often)
  • Lift and move medium weight computer equipment. (rare)    

Mental Effort:

  • Short periods of intense concentration while solving user problems or configuring systems. (Often)

Visual/Auditory Effort:

  • Focus on printed material and computer for short periods. (frequent)

Work Environment:

  • Office.

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Organize and prioritize work.
  • Understand and apply the techniques of computer hardware, software, and network operating systems. 
  • Advanced level operation of current City hardware and software.
  • Design, plan and implement local area network systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and advice to user departments.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
  • Diploma in Computer Science or Microcomputer technology. (2 years)
  • Required to obtain criminal record check.
  • Required to sign attestation of confidentiality.

Experience:

  • 4 years of related experience
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
