Canada is a founding member of the APEC forum and, like all member economies, can appoint up to three representatives to the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC). ABAC is a high-level private sector advisory group that has the mandate to advise APEC leaders of the priorities and concerns of the business community in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Government of Canada is currently seeking applications from diverse and talented Canadian business executives interested in shaping the future of Asia- Pacific trade as a Canadian representative to the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).
What is ABAC?
ABAC is a private sector body created by APEC Leaders in 1995, mandated to advise APEC Leaders on priorities and concerns of the business community in the Asia Pacific region.
What are the responsibilities of an ABAC member?
The role of Canadian ABAC members is critical in providing a Canadian perspective within APEC on the opportunities and challenges facing businesses engaged in the Asia-Pacific region.
• ABAC members engage APEC Leaders directly at the annual ABAC Dialogue with Leaders, on the margins of the APEC Summit.
• ABAC members develop and present an annual report to APEC Leaders, with specific recommendations on enhancing Asia-Pacific trade.
• ABAC meets four times per year, and members can participate in various ABAC working groups which provide valuable networking and policy development opportunities.
• Canadian ABAC members also provide advice to the Government of Canada on how to strengthen trade in the Asia-Pacific region.
