Campership Classic Charity Disc Golf Tournament Enriches Lives of Children With Disabilities
Saturday, July 17th at Mary's Farm & Sanctuary
Victoria, B.C. (June 16, 2021): Mary’s Farm & Sanctuary in Victoria will be hosting the Easter Seals Campership Classic Charity Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 17th. This event is a chance to come together as a community safely, for a day of fun and raise funds to send children and youth with physical and intellectual disabilities to Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan.
Cost is $40 per person and you can register as an individual or sign up a team of four. Registration includes a disc and one round of 18 holes of disc golf at Mary’s Farm.
“We wanted to put a fundraising event on that was open to any age and experience, and where we could get everyone outside in a safe, COVID-friendly environment,” says Mary-Lynn Hanson, Easter Seals manager based in Victoria. “If you can throw a frisbee you can play disc golf!”
Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan first opened in 1979 and has been giving children and adults with disabilities on Vancouver Island a fully accessible experience at an overnight summer camp every since. Campers learn life-changing skills, gain life-long friendships, and as important it is for campers, it’s also an important week of respite for parents and caregivers.
“This year, with COVID-19 health and safety policies still in place, we were unable to offer our week-long overnight camps, but we are going to be putting on day camps and a weekend family camp in August at Shawnigan Lake,” adds Hanson. “These camps are so important for both campers and families, especially after the very hard year they had with many of their support programs and services being cancelled.”
Every $500 raised, funds one day of overnight summer camp.
