Last chance to claim $10k per employee Canada-BC job training grant

The $3m Canada-BC job training fund is open for applications briefly this month for eligible employers and organizations to train new and current employees.

Technology and manufacturing are considered eligible sectors to apply for funding from the Canada-BC job grant, so many BC based tech companies will be able to leverage the resource.

With the grant covering 66% of training costs of up to $10k per employee, the fund is an amazing opportunity to train up staff.

According to the factsheet, the training must be used for skills development in these areas:

  • Soft Skills
  • Essential Skills
  • Specialized or Technical Skills
  • Business or Management Skills

For hardware technology companies, EMC FastPass, a BC based company specializing in high quality online professional development courses for hardware engineers and manufacturers is one of the eligible training organizations available to leverage.

EMC FastPass specializes in helping manufacturers to design and prepare electronic products for challenging regulatory tests such as electromagnetic compatibility, radio frequency and safety testing where the failure rates often exceed 50%, representing days or weeks lost time to market. Their current online training offerings include:

EMC Design For Compliance

EMC Testing Fundamentals

EMC Troubleshooting & Pre-compliance Testing for Product Designers

FCC Wireless (RF) Pre-Compliance Testing

Antenna Matching

Intrinsically Safe (IS) Hardware Design

They also offer custom on-site courses on subjects such as 'How to set up and operate an in-house EMC test lab' in limited cases.

'Our existing online courses have been delivered to companies all over the world' say Andy Eadie, founder of EMC FastPass. 'We're lucky to have engineers from small startups all the way up to large multinationals such as SGS, Steris Medical, Delphi and Cisco as existing clients. We've targeted training offerings in the regulatory compliance realm, which is a pretty universal problem area for hardware manufacturers in most industries including consumer, medical, industrial, aerospace and railway. We're excited about the BC jobs grant because it will enable more BC manufacturers to access the valuable training their engineers need to design products that pass compliance testing first time around.'

According to the Canada-BC job grant FAQ, the fund will remain open for applications until the funding limit has been reached. However, applications take up to 60 days to process and all training must begin before 31st March according to the website, so it is advisable to get applications in as soon as possible, and ideally before the end of January.
