Educational/Training Mentorship Study/Report

Roy Group wants to hear about those times when someone exemplified their finest conduct, and held the bar high for you to do the same.

Victoria, BC (15 November 2021) — Roy Group wants to hear about those times when someone exemplified their finest conduct, and held the bar high for you to do the same. That’s what they call mentorship. But they also want to hear about the times when it went wrong — when your Mentor did not provide you with what you needed.

Roy Group wants to hear all your stories: the good, the bad and the bungled…so that they can create a clear perspective on the conditions that create impactful mentorship.

The shelves are full of books about leadership. But there’s much less clarity about what truly makes someone a Mentor. “It is quite common for us to overlook mentorship as a theme in the stories of our lives,” says Roy Group Partner Ian Chisholm. “It comes into our life almost unnoticed. Yet it is the secret ingredient that sparks our ability to learn, grow, adapt and evolve.”

Roy Group has commissioned The Cynefin Centre (https://cynefincentre.com) to design a study of original research into the conditions of mentor relationships. What makes for great mentorship? What conditions compromise the mentorship bond?

Roy Group needs your stories to find out. Their SenseMaker portal (link below) is easy to understand, and has simple questions to guide you. All you need is a story of a time when someone helped you step into greatness — or when a Mentor missed the mark.

Your stories are anonymous. And there’s no limit to the number you can tell. Roy Group is hoping to collect thousands, so throw us a couple. No one else in the world is doing this research, and they’re excited to be on the leading edge.

Roy Group will share the results of our research with our network, and they'll use them in our work with Mentor networks across the country. They’ll also inform The Mentorfesto — Ian’s forthcoming book about mentorship.
