Sendwithus Startup Slam v2.0, is an opportunity for UVic students to get first hand experience in cutting edge technologies used to power local startups. Startup Slam will be on Saturday October 3rd, at the University of Victoria from 10:00AM to 5:00PM. The event will be attended by 100-150 students from the University of Victoria, Camosun College, Vancouver Island University, and Royal Roads University Computer Science, Engineering and Business programs.
Leaders in the growing Victoria tech sector have stepped up to share skills and industry tools with emerging professionals and students. TinyMob Games, One Net Marketing, Bandcamp, Pretio Interactive, Change Heroes, and sendwithus will take the stage to bring industry knowledge and skills directly to students. Startup Slam brings local tech companies and programming students together for a sharing of knowledge and passion that will help propel students forward into exciting career paths in Computer Science and Engineering.
Startup Slam v2.0 continues a series of events hosted by the Sendwithus team at the University of Victoria that includes Battlesnake in February 2015 and the first Startup Slam back in September 2014. Each workshop will be hosted by a local company and teach various technologies and programming techniques that students can immediately interact with during the workshop. Prize packs and lunch will be sponsored by local tech startups.
The event is sponsored by Heroku, a successful San Francisco startup that helps developers host services online. Other sponsors include Sendwithus, VIATEC, Band Camp, Pretio Interactive, One Net Marketing, MetaLab, and the University of Victoria’s Department of Computer Science.
Sendwithus was founded in 2013 in Victoria, BC and opened an engineering office in the inner harbour in the summer of 2014. With offices in both San Francisco and Victoria, Sendwithus is committed to bringing more Silicon Valley companies into Canada and building a thriving tech community on Vancouver Island.
