UVic Mechanical Engineering in search of design challenges for Capstone Projects
Design is a vital aspect of technology development, and achieving design competency requires opportunities to learn from practice. In January 2020, the UVic Mechanical Engineering capstone design course (Mech 400) in Mechanical Engineering kicks off. Running January to April, student teams of 4th year students will work on client-defined design projects across a range of technology development areas. Many projects will lead to a physical prototype being built, and all will culminate in a public tradeshow in early April.
The course is an opportunity for our students to gain design experience that ties together their project management, creative design and analytic skills developed during their degree. In so doing, they help local companies on specific design problems, gaining skills in client relationships and helping to advance technology innovation on Vancouver Island.
If your company has a design challenge they would like to propose for a student team to take on, please get in touch with Dr. Curran Crawford at curranc@uvic.ca
