Building Anchor Companies in Victoria | Exit or Grow (June CEO Breakfast Club)

With examples such as the Canadarm in space and the world’s first smart phone coming from Canada, Canada has a rich history of technology innovation and those enterprising entrepreneurs are rightly rewarded for their contributions to society. But those rewards are often due to a sale to foreign owners which results in diminished potential of Canada’s economic engine and the loss of talented people or valuable on-the-job training grounds for local talent, particularly for commercially oriented job functions. With a longer view on our contributions to Canada and our local community, we can continue to build our companies (and their value) at home such that they become anchors of economic and talent development, which will benefit our local technology sector at large.
So how can we encourage and support successful entrepreneurs to retain and grow their gem companies into anchors of Victoria’s technology community?
To explore this question, we are grateful to have the Honourable Brenda Bailey, BC’s Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation provide opening remarks, followed by a panel of a panel of successful BC entrepreneurs who will share their experience and field questions from the audience.
